Is the Salmon River able to support the lifespan of salmon? That is the question we have set out to answer. For our AP Environmental Science, we participate in one research project a year and our class of 16 students agreed to study a local river and the species it is home to. For our project, we will have multiple field days in Wildwood Recreational Park in Welches, Oregon for data collection and survey. We will be testing the water flow rate, temperature and dissolved oxygen rates while also surveying what invertebrates call the Salmon River home and how they affect the ecosystem. With the help of Portland State University Capstone students and other volunteers, we will use this data to form conclusions on whether or not the river can adequately support our fishy friends. Check back to see what we find!
